Day of Digped logo squareAs part of ACERT’s Day of Digital Pedagogy event, a celebration of faculty and students’ innovative use of digital technology in the classroom, Jack Dougherty (Professor of Educational Studies, Trinity College) will lead a hands-on workshop for faculty on building your own book. The workshop will feature the open-source Pressbooks platform, a WordPress derivative that generates multiple formats: web, epub, Kindle, and PDF for print books. Comparisons also will be drawn to similar tools such as GitBook and Scalar.

With a self-hosted Pressbooks site at Trinity College, Jack and collaborators published Web Writing: Why and How for Liberal Arts Teaching and Learning (University of Michigan Press, 2015). Currently, he and his students are creating On The Line: How Schooling, Housing, and Civil Rights Shaped Hartford and its Suburbs , with interactive maps and oral history videos.

Jack is author of the award-winning More Than One Struggle: The Evolution of School Reform in Milwaukee (University of North Carolina Press, 2004) and has co-written and co-edited several influential open-access volumes on digital humanities scholarship and pedagogy.

Light refreshments will be served.
