The student body at Hunter College is exceptionally diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, native language, culture, age, learning style, background knowledge, ability, gender, veteran status, and other characteristics. This lunchtime seminar aims to explore this diversity through discussion and examples of how principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can support faculty who wish to proactively and incrementally re-design courses to be welcoming, usable, and accessible to students with a broad range of characteristics, including students with disabilities. Most instructors are already drawing on aspects of UDL in their courses, and panel presenters will offer insights and ideas to help instructors continue to make changes in their teaching, including in the design of classroom activities and online materials.
