Maintaining quality in multi-section courses

When: October 28, 2014, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Where: Charlotte Frank Classroom (1203 HE)

Presenter(s): Mark Bobrow (English) and Jonathan Shannon (Anthropology)

Many departments at Hunter face the problem of managing core courses, such Pathways-compliant general education courses or gateway courses in the major, that serve a high volume of students through multiple sections. These sections are usually staffed by a mix of full-time, part-time, and GTF instructors with varying levels of experience. Professors Bobrow and Shannon will discuss ongoing projects in English and Anthropology, respectively, to support instructors and assess the quality of instruction across sections. Professor Shannon will discuss an ongoing project to assess instruction of Anthropology 101; Professor Bobrow will introduce the English department’s efforts across several courses with multiple sections with special attention to the department’s use of Blackboard as part of a comprehensive development and support program for instructors.
