Hunter’s Academic Center for Excellence in Research and Teaching (ACERT) invites you to participate in a Teaching Scholarship Circle on online and hybrid courses. In this semester-long series of four seminars, faculty with some experience teaching online and hybrid classes will share their challenges and effective practices. We will explore pedagogical questions derived both from our own practice and from current scholarship, with an eye towards deepening our practice and further developing our courses. Discussions will initially focus on four main themes: structuring online and hybrid courses, designing materials and activities, helping students get ready and stay on track, and assessing students and giving feedback. These topics may be adjusted depending on the desires of the group.

Each session will begin with one or two participants briefly sharing a part of their course that is relevant to the week’s theme. The facilitators will then lead a discussion drawing on demonstrations, short readings, and related questions. In the final session, we will share artifacts (e.g., new assessment plans, different assignments, additional materials) that demonstrate how our courses have changed as a result of participating in the group.

During the first session, the group will identify that we would most like to address and each participant will identify an aspect of their own course to work on over the course of the semester. We encourage you to attend all the sessions, which will build on one another.

This seminar is intended for faculty who are currently teaching, or have previous experience teaching, online or hybrid classes. If you are planning to teach an online or hybrid class for the first time, please inquire about our Guided Exploration series, offered in January and June.

Meeting Schedule: Wednesdays on February 26 (1017 E), March 5, March 19, and April 2. All meetings will take place from 11:00AM-1:00PM in the Senate Large conference room unless otherwise indicated.
