Using technology to improve learner-centered nursing education: A CUNY-wide faculty development program

When: February 26, 2015, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Where: Charlotte Frank Classroom (1203 HE)

Presenter(s): Donna Nickitas (Nursing) and Shawn McGinnis (Nursing)

The presenters will share some of their approaches to blended learning in the New York City Nursing Education Consortium in Technology (NYCNECT), a CUNY-wide faculty development program dedicated to the adoption of learner-centered uses of technology to improve nursing education. Faculty will discover how NYCNECT provides a blend of face-to-face and online instruction supplemented by “Just in Time” resources to support learners and achieve the program’s aims. Faculty will learn a few strategies to enhance their online courses, including the use of digital badges to encourage and recognize learner achievement.

After the presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to share their own experiences with the use of educational technology to enhance teaching and
learning as well as their ideas about the kinds of events and programs that would be most useful to them in engaging students in hybrid or fully online
courses.
