Developing an online academic presence can help you make your work more visible, network with colleagues, and learn about new trends in your field. With many platforms to choose from, how do you select which to use? In this session, three faculty members will talk about how and why they have cultivated an online presence. Kelle Cruz is active as a professional astronomer in several social media platforms including a blog (AstroBetter.com) and Twitter (@kellecruz, @astrobetter). She also regularly participates in Facebook discussion groups for professional astronomers and physics and astronomy educators. John Pell has created profiles on Mendeley and SlideShare and will discuss the metrics that can be collected through these platforms. Zachary Shirkey will talk about his newly created pages on Google Scholar.
