When: December 2, 2015, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Where: Register for location

Presenter(s): Laura Baecher (Curriculum and Teaching) and Shiao-Chuan Kung (TTLG)

Note: This session is part of a series that will meet on October 7, November 4, December 2, February 3, March 2 and April 13. Participants should plan to attend all six sessions.

This Teaching Scholarship Circle series will provide faculty interested in researching and publishing on their teaching a unique opportunity to be coached and to work through the design and drafting of a research manuscript. We will begin in October and meet six times, once per month from October – April, thus bridging the January intersession where more writing and development of our manuscripts can occur. We will develop a writing circle and engage in peer-review and target a specific journal for our piece in progress.  Session topics will include:

  • The definition of SoTL and types of research on teaching and learning that exist across disciplines
  • Understanding the genres of writing demanded in research in the social sciences
  • How to set up an IRB protocol to allow you to research the impact of your teaching at Hunter
  • Ways to collect and study the data that will answer your research questions
  • How to present your findings to an audience of higher education readers

We will meet on Wednesdays from 11:00-1:00 on October 7, November 4, December 2, February 3, March 2 and April 13. Participants should plan to attend all six sessions and work on a manuscript to be ready for submission next spring.  This session ran for the first time in Spring 2015 with great success!
