Use your pre-existing tests to better understand student learning

When: November 19, 2014, 9:30 am - 11:00 am
Where: Chanin Language Center (B126 West)

Presenter(s): Meredith Reitman (Office of Assessment)

One of the most common ways to assess student learning is to look at students’ answers on tests. In addition to helping faculty assign grades, good tests that are mapped to learning outcomes can provide helpful information about what students are able to do, and what they are not able to do, by that point in the course. This workshop will guide faculty through best practices for designing/re-designing tests – including mapping them to learning outcomes – and demonstrate a quick and easy method for using item analysis to assess student learning. We will include demonstrations of both offline and online item analysis, using Microsoft Excel and Blackboard Tests. Make sure to bring any in-progress tests if you want to work on them.
