As our mission states, we seek to foster community at Hunter, no small feat at a non-residential college spread over multiple campuses, with more than 23,000 students and more than 1,800 faculty. It’s one reason we provide lunch (or at least coffee and cookies) at as many events as we can. We constantly work to bring faculty from across the College together to learn from each other and feel part of a larger, supportive environment interested in professional practice. Our informal events include:
We organize regular happy hours for faculty and staff at nearby venues – a great way to get to know colleagues outside your department.
Cookies and Chat
Come share your teaching stories at Cookies and Chat, our new initiative to give faculty an informal forum for sharing ideas and experiences in the classroom. Trying something new in your classes? Have a student assignment that didn’t quite work out as you intended? Looking for a new perspective? In each session, two or three faculty members briefly present a component of their class that they would like to discuss with a group of peers and ACERT staff. We provide coffee, tea, cookies, ideas, and good cheer.
At the beginning of each semester, we organize an open house for faculty to learn about ACERT and other professional development resources on campus.
