The Hunter College Senate’s Standing Committee on Student Success has been studying “early student evaluations” and “early feedback” as a means for enhancing student success at the College. Early student evaluations and feedback have a number of useful features. They can foster more systematic engagement between faculty and students and they can provide students with critical feedback for successful completion of courses. Our Committee is adamant that it is up to individual instructors to determine the most appropriate methods of early evaluation and early feedback for them and their courses. As such, we are very interested in faculty members’ ideas for student evaluation and feedback. In this ACERT “Ideas Lab” we will brainstorm approaches that might be deployed here at Hunter College. Our Committee hopes that, in aggregate, these interventions will directly and positively impact metrics such as graduation and retention rate, measures widely held as indicators of student success.
