When: September 26, 2019, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Where: Charlotte Frank Classroom (1203 HE)

Presenter(s): Giovanna Cucciniello (Education Abroad); Laura Baecher (Curriculum and Teaching); Jessica Rothman (Anthropology)

A primary goal of study abroad education programs entails providing experiential learning activities in diverse contexts far from the Hunter classroom. In this seminar, we will hear from faculty, students, and staff members about their experiences leading and participating in a variety of study abroad experiences. First, Giovanna Cucciniello, Director of the Office of Education Abroad will offer an overview of study abroad opportunities that include faculty led winter and summer programs, internships, and service learning opportunities. Then, Professor Laura Baecher (Curriculum and Teaching) will discuss her experience leading groups of education students on trips to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Japan, and the Dominican Republic. Next,  Professor Jessica Rothman (Anthropology) will describe her soon to be five trips abroad with students researching primate behavior in the forests of Uganda. These authentic learning programs move away from traditional classroom-based models of instruction and inspire us to envision a field-based, experiential approach to teaching and learning.
