Digital cross-pollination in English 120

When: March 26, 2015, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Where: Charlotte Frank Classroom (1203 HE)

Presenter(s): Austin Bailey, Jack Kenigsberg, Andrew Laudel, Sean Molloy (English); Martyna Chrzanowska, Jenna Crawford, Nicole Krishtul (English 120 students)

In this roundtable discussion, instructors and students from Hunter’s 2014 ENGL 120 “Writing About Writing” pilot courses will share examples of student digital compositions. The “Writing About Writing” model treats first-year writing courses as introductions to Composition and Rhetoric theory; our pilot focused on digital composing and rhetorics.

Our panel will address questions and issues raised by this model, including:

– the complex pathways and effects of informal collaborations using digital tools

– the experience of students moving from writing practice assignments to published work with real audiences

– the experience of teachers as learners

– ways in which digital composition and rhetorics challenge traditional definitions of academic work
