When: February 26, 2019, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Where: Charlotte Frank Classroom (1203 HE)

Presenter(s): Matthew Gold (Graduate Center, Adviser to the Provost for Digital Initiatives); Krystyna Michael (Graduate Center); Julie Van Peteghem (Romance Languages); Trudy Smoke (English); Philip Johnson (Graduate Center, WAC Fellow)

This year marks twenty years since the CUNY Board of Trustees implemented the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) initiative that encouraged instructors in all disciplines to make connections between writing, thinking, and learning. In this lunchtime seminar, we will explore what a WAC-based curriculum looks like at Hunter, particularly in light of the many new digital technologies and online resources. First, we will hear from Trudy Smoke (English) who is Co-Coordinator of the WAC program at Hunter. She will offer a brief history of WAC initiatives. Next, Matthew Gold (Graduate Center) and Krystyna Michael (Graduate Center) will demonstrate their work with Manifold, an open-source platform for scholarly publishing that has been nominated for a Best of Digital Humanities Award, and Julie Van Peteghem (Romance Languages) will detail how she started using Manifold in her teaching. Philip Johnson (Graduate Center, WAC Fellow) will then present the work of current and recent CUNY WAC Fellows. Finally, we will have time for an open discussion of all aspects of how we write, publish, and teach writing in 2019 and beyond.
