What are some ways in which we can shift the focus from simply getting the grade to instead encouraging real engagement and deep learning? In this session, our presenters will share their different approaches to decentering grades in their classrooms – from offering choice in how to get to a final grade, replacing grades with feedback (or “feed-forward”), and full-on “ungrading.” This session will be of interest to instructors new to exploring alternative modes of assessment as well as those interested in continuing our ongoing conversation at ACERT on why and how we grade.
