Incorporating technology to support a multi-section course

When: March 4, 2014, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Where: Charlotte Frank Classroom (1203 HE)

Presenter(s): Stephen Burghardt, Robyn Brown-Manning, Nancy Giunta, Carmen Morano, and Judith Trachtenberg (Silberman School of Social Work)

This workshop will demonstrate how faculty can collaborate to develop a shared online compendium of resources for multi-section courses. In the School of Social Work, a Master Course Blackboard site was used as a central “go-to” location for 18 sections of a team-taught introductory graduate course (six instructors per class). Resources that faculty collaborated to create include:

  • online videos
  • publications
  • VoiceThread presentations

The materials on the site were used to support the purpose of the course, which is to build foundational social work skills within a framework of anti-oppressive social work practice and mindfulness. The presentation will:

  • highlight the structure of the team-teaching approach
  • demonstrate the online resources developed, and
  • discuss the benefits and challenges of developing and utilizing online tools
