Zero Cost Textbook courses and CUNY’s Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives are important avenues towards lowering the cost of education for our students, but they are also opportunities for us to re-examine our approaches to teaching and learning. In this Lunchtime Seminar, we will discuss ways OERs and Zero Cost Textbook courses can help us do more than simply replace our textbooks. Allison Lehr-Samuels, Madeline Cohen, Sharon Jordan, and Anne Rice will first give overviews of OER and pedagogy development experiences at Baruch College and Lehman College. Then, Charles Tien and Sanford Schram will offer their local insights after a semester of teaching an introductory Political Science course with an open-source textbook at Hunter.
