Internships — as degree requirement or elective, for college credit or not, paid or unpaid — have become an integral part of the college experience. During this lunchtime seminar, we will hear how internship coordinators across Hunter establish, organize, and advertise internships, and mentor students in internship programs at the college, CUNY, and beyond. Given the prevalence of unpaid internships, we will also reflect on how we can ensure that our students have equal access to these opportunities to gain field and practical experience, when they often conflict with other demands on their time and financial considerations. Carrie Shandra (SUNY-Stony Brook), who studies college internships and equity, will share insights from her research.
