Register as a presenter for “Small Teaching Part II: Lightning Talks on Teaching and Learning”

For the final Lunchtime Seminar of the fall semester on November 1st, 12-2pm, ACERT invites volunteers to present short "lightning talks" on any aspect of their teaching and learning. The topic for presentations is open, and presenters are encouraged to talk about anything that they feel will be interesting to the ACERT community.

CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative “lightning talks” event: Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM

CUNYs Digital Humanities Initiative is hosting its annual “lightning talks” event in a few weeks. I’ve participated in this event a couple of times in the past. As a presenter, it offers a friendly audience of CUNY colleagues and requires minimal prep (a “lightning talk” is a roughly three-minute precis of a project with maximum three slides). As a spectator, it offers a breathtaking array of work from colleagues across the CUNYverse representing a diverse range of disciplines and approaches. Pedagogical projects are warmly welcomed. The deadline is November 6th to apply as a presenter.

Bringing the Museum into the World Language Classroom

1203 HE Workshops On Friday, October 19th, ACERT is helping to organize a pedagogical workshop entitled “Bringing the Museum into the World Language Classroom.” The workshop will run from 8:45 am - 2:15 pm at the 68th Street campus and will showcase strategies to integrate art and poetry into the world language curriculum in grades 7-16 and beyond. Introduced at the Lunchtime Seminar on October 2nd, during the fall 2018 seminar series, ACERT will be trying out a new online discussion activity. We invite all Hunter faculty, staff, and administrators to read, comment, and try out activities described in James Lang’s blog posts on the Chronicle of Higher Education’s website. We will be using hypothes.is and its annotation extension to highlight and comment on any aspect of the blog posts.
