FITT 2017 – Call for Proposals

The President’s Initiative for Faculty Innovations in Teaching and Technology

Deadline extended to March 17, 2017

What is FITT?

Faculty Innovations in Teaching and Technology (FITT) is a competitive program for faculty seeking to enhance student learning in innovative ways. FITT awardees undertake creative pedagogical experiments and explore emerging technologies within a vibrant community committed to sharing experiences and expertise. FITT fosters a culture of assessment and encourages faculty to contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Who is eligible to participate?

Full-time faculty from all schools at Hunter and adjunct faculty who have taught at Hunter for at least three years are eligible to submit a proposal. Adjunct faculty must submit a letter of support from their department chair with their application. Please note the following:

  • The faculty member(s) submitting the proposal should intend to develop the project during summer 2017 and implement it in a class that they will be teaching in the 2017/2018 academic year.
  • We welcome joint proposals by two or more faculty members.
  • Faculty who received a FITT award in 2016 are not eligible to participate in 2017.

What is offered?

  • A $2,000 stipend per selected project, paid upon successful completion of the project. The stipend may be adjusted for larger-scale projects developed by multiple faculty members.
  • Assistance conceptualizing, developing, implementing, and assessing your project.
  • Mentoring from experienced faculty innovators.

What is expected in return?

  • The development of an innovation to increase student engagement in your course or program, with all significant planning and design completed by the end of summer 2017.
  • The development of a plan to assess how that innovation affected both the learning process and outcomes.
  • The implementation of that innovation during the 2017-2018 academic year.
  • A commitment to sharing your innovation with faculty colleagues by:
    • Participating in the FITT pre-summer and end-of-summer meetings.
    • Attending relevant in-person workshops.
    • Discussing your work in progress during at least one mid-summer “cookies and chat” meeting.
    • Presenting your work at an ACERT Lunchtime Seminar in 2017-2018.
    • Preparing a final written report reflecting on your innovation, assessing its efficacy, and sharing any relevant materials (e.g., course or project site) with colleagues via ACERT’s site.

FITT 2017 Schedule

FITT participants are expected to participate in events throughout the summer. FITT begins with a pre-summer meeting, at which you will meet your colleagues and the people who will assist with your project. Your project will be assigned an educational technologist, who will be available to meet with you throughout the summer and beyond, and who will coordinate other resources needed for your project. We will schedule several mid-summer opportunities for you to share your work in progress and get feedback from colleagues. At the end of the summer, we will meet again as a group to hear from all award winners and celebrate the launch of your innovation.
