Critical race theory explores the relationship between race, racism and power in our society. How does this relationship play out in our classrooms? Among students or between students and professors? And what can we do to counter the harmful effects of racism – such as stereotype threat, invisibility or impostor syndrome – on our students?
Each week, faculty will read and discuss key works within critical race theory that have application to the classroom. We will then explore how we might take action to address challenges, reviewing a variety of teaching tools and methods already in practice and perhaps developing a few of our own.
Note: This session is part of a series that will meet on January 6, January 13, January 20, January 27. Participants should plan to attend all four sessions.
