The Office of AccessABILITY in collaboration with ACERT, presents: An Open Forum with Dylan Emmons,“Working Meaningfully with Students on the Autism Spectrum”
This presentation will discuss often hidden or uncommunicated issues that impact students on the spectrum. It will offer strategies for addressing student needs preemptively in curriculum and other planning, as well as interacting with and serving the population with problems that arise spontaneously. This is an interactive presentation, where instructors and other professionals can discuss specific situations or questions.
Dylan Emmons Bio:
Diagnosed with Asperger’s at age six, Dylan Emmons is a writer, public speaker and consultant working to improve understanding for and improving the quality of life of individuals on the spectrum. Dylan works with institutes of higher education, consulting with the instructors and professionals that work with students on the spectrum. He is a Reading and Writing Instructor at Borough of Manhattan Community College and lives in the Hudson Valley.
Dylan is the author of “Living in Two Worlds: On Being a Social Chameleon With Asperger’s” and has done presentation at William Patterson University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Borough of Manhattan Community College, Medgar Evers College, Manhattanville College, Pleasantville Lab School at Westchester Community College and many more.
