Register for “Module-making camp”

On June 5 – 7, 2017, we invite you to participate in a 2.5-day camp on building or refreshing your hybrid or online courses. We will work intensively to support you as you design one online learning module for a course you will be teaching in a future semester. We ask you to set aside the time to attend all three days and complete the creation of an online module at the end.

A learning module is a collection of subject-related teaching materials that is carefully sequenced and chunked. In addition to course content, modules contain learning outcomes, directions for use, learning activities and ways to ascertain whether students have understood the material. Learning modules are the building blocks of hybrid and online courses and usually contain one week’s worth of work for students to complete.

Monday, June 5th & Tuesday, June 6th 10:00am – 4:00pm

In the morning, you will hear from colleagues and see samples of online modules and multimedia assignments. They will share tips and insights gained from creating online modules and teaching online courses. Ask them about pedagogical techniques and technology tools used. Get introduced to a sample online course template and and peer observation form to facilitate and guide you in developing your course. In the afternoon, participate in individual consultations tailored to your needs or get hands-on help from support staff while you build your module.

Topics may include:

  • preparing students for hybrid/online courses
  • recording mini-lectures
  • creating screen-recordings
  • managing grades
  • creating low-stakes assessments
  • conducting synchronous online meetings
  • scaffolding long-term multimedia projects

Wednesday, June 7th, 10:00-12:00pm

Make final touches and present your module. Get feedback from colleagues and gain ideas for improving it prior to launching it!

Space is limited. To register, please complete this form before May 31, 2017.
