New challenges and questions with GenAI in courses have resurfaced the decades-old tech ban debate: do you allow technology in your courses or not? It can seem like an all-or-nothing choice, but many faculty are experimenting with technology “zones” or certain times when they ask students to put their devices away, and allow it when technology enhances learning. This seminar explores strategies for fostering curiosity, focus, and meaningful classroom participation while navigating the ongoing conversation around technology use in higher ed. Presenters will share a variety of approaches that encourage students to be engaged and intentional in their learning.
