Open Educational Resources at Hunter Libraries

Finding Open Educational Resources (textbooks, courseware, and ancillary materials which can be freely used, reused, and remixed) can be a daunting task. Adding to this frustration is the fact that OERs are as diverse as the disciplines which seek to employ them. There is no “one size fits all” OER. Enter the Hunter Library’s OER office and our showcase OER repository Open Educational Resources (OER): A Libguide. Though digital pedagogy, digital tools, and OER materials represent a paradigm shift in the way education is provided, the library continues to be the faculty’s guide to available resources and information technologies.

The CUNY Academic Commons has become a robust and flexible platform: a place for discussion, faculty collaboration, professional networking, private and public writing, communicating with your students, and storing your course materials. In recent semesters, some CUNY instructors have begun using the Commons as the learning management system (LMS) in their courses as an open education alternative to Blackboard. In this Event Capsule, Kelly Paciaroni, Monica Calabritto, and Julie Van Peteghem discuss "Bringing the Museum into the World Language Classroom," a workshop held on October 19th, 2018, where they showcased strategies to integrate art and poetry into the world language curriculum in grades 7-16 and beyond. The event featured presentations, a live teaching demonstration featuring high school students, and interactive breakout sessions.
