ACERT Summer 2026 Writing Support

This summer you can participate in four ways to Write! Write! Write! Write!

June Writing Retreat (6/9 – 6/11)

Start off the summer term with focused writing time and peer support from colleagues across the college! Join us on Zoom from 9am to 12pm for writing tips and inspiration, community and accountability, and above all plenty of dedicated time to get your summer writing projects moving forward! Group time and check-ins are scheduled on 6/9, 6/10, and 6/11 at 9am. We’ll leave the Zoom room open until 12pm for those who prefer quiet writing time together.

Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks (all summer)

Break down the writing process into small, manageable steps, and complete your journal article by the end of summer. Participants in this program will follow the step-by-step “Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks” method by Wendy Laura Belcher to complete a journal article over the summer. By the end of August, participants will have submitted a journal article for publication. The program will run for 12 weeks from June 1 to August 21, right before the start of the Fall 2026 semester. Group check-ins are scheduled on Thursday mornings 9-9:30am via Zoom or asynchronously. Participants will receive a copy of the writing workbook.

Biweekly Afternoon Creative Writing Workshop (all summer)

This is perfect for those working on creative writing (e.g., screenplays, music, memoir, poetry, fiction, etc.) who would like some writing inspiration and a space to share short excerpts from works in progress. We will begin each session by reading a short excerpt or poem for inspiration, and then spend time workshopping works-in-progress. Join us on Zoom every other Wednesday, starting June 10 and ending August 19 (6 sessions total: 6/10, 6/24, 7/8, 7/22, 8/5, 8/19), from 1pm to 3pm. Participants will be asked to sign up for workshop slots and submit their excerpts in advance.

Two #HunterWrites Challenges (July 6-19 and August 3-16)

During #HunterWrites, ACERT is excited to offer weekday morning writing sessions on Zoom from 8:00–9:00 AM that coincide with the NCFDD Writing Challenges happening this summer! These sessions are designed as focused, supportive writing time – come as you are, write what you can, and start your day in community with fellow Hunter writers. Register for an NCFDD 14-Day Writing Challenge here.

If you have any questions, please contact us at acert@hunter.cuny.edu.

All full-time and part-time Hunter faculty, staff, and doctoral students are welcome to participate.

You can register here to join.

Melissa Jackson will facilitate the June Writing Retreat. Gina Riley will facilitate the Writing Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks program and the #HunterWrites NCFDD Writing Challenges. Christina Katopodis will facilitate the Biweekly Creative Writing Workshops.
