Creating a well thought-out, comprehensive rubric takes work; but the effort is worth it. Rubrics, when used correctly, have a number of benefits. They have been shown to help students become more aware of their learning process and progress, improve student performance, and help instructors quickly and consistently assess assignments from student to student.

Assessment in Action in Hunter’s learning communities

A project conceived by the 2014-2015 Assessment Fellows made an appearance at the ACRL Assessment in Action poster session at the annual meeting of the American Library Association this summer. The project was an effort to activate Hunter’s learning communities by fostering deeper collaboration between faculty in the library and in the first-year writing program.
