Coffee & Pedagogy on First Fridays: Developing a discussion group focused on teaching in the library

You might not know this, but librarians at Hunter do a good bit of teaching. We manage hundreds of invited class sessions every semester as well as many sections of a semester long credit-bearing research course. We teach first year students and doctoral students and everything in between. We care about teaching well and we want to get better at doing it. One thing we do to improve our teaching is set aside a dedicated time each month to get together with colleagues in our department and talk about it.

CUNY Academic Commons Faculty Fellowships – Spring 2017

The CUNY Academic Commons (CAC), in collaboration with the Graduate Center’s Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), requests applications for CUNY Academic Commons Faculty Fellowships for the Spring 2017 semester. CAC Faculty Fellows will have the opportunity to teach a course using the CUNY Academic Commons during the Spring 2017 semester with dedicated technical and pedagogical support from the CAC and the TLC teams. Proposals must be submitted by midnight on November 15, 2016.

Creating a well thought-out, comprehensive rubric takes work; but the effort is worth it. Rubrics, when used correctly, have a number of benefits. They have been shown to help students become more aware of their learning process and progress, improve student performance, and help instructors quickly and consistently assess assignments from student to student.
